Holiday Lights at Viewpoint at Redondo
Holiday lights are an inviting attraction. As winter days get shorter we can enjoy such lights for a longer time.
Nobody complains that there are too many lights in our neighborhood. Rather we pout that there aren’t more lights to decorate.
While driving along Redondo Beach in the day time offers spectacular scenery, in the night time itleads to a winter wonderland. Due to our current economic downturn some people are reticent to light up their houses and celebrate the season. However, the Viewpoint at Redondo residents are still faithful to the season. They decorate their houses with hundreds of lights. Each house has some kind of theme – some proclaim a miracle such as the birth of Jesus through a nativity scene or the extension of light through a star of David or menorah and others share jolly Christmas kid-friendly figures like Santa Claus, snowmen, gingerbread houses, choo choo trains and, of course, reindeers. (There’s even a Grinch at one.)
You will also see a canned food drive placed by someone who cares about people in need–especially during this holiday season. Some nights a family sells hot beverages to raise money for good causes. What a great way to teach our children to share their love for the community.
One year I remember our family attempted to drive through a fancy light display that was more than 10-miles away. They charged per vehicle at that time. We were pretty close to the area, but had to turn around because of traffic. We were so disappointed and ended up coming back to the simple but brilliant display at Viewpoint. Whether you walk around or drive along, you would feel as if you are in a winter wonderland. So, bundle up the family and indulge in Christmas spirit, right here in South King County. You will feel the spirit of Advent as you slowly drive or walk the circle. It’s a homey, comfortable feeling, regardless of how you get here or where you come from.
Viewpoint at Redondo displays its lights free of charge, daily, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. They started December 1st and will continue through New Year’s. The neighborhood can be reached from the North by driving along Redondo Beach Drive until it becomes 1st Avenue South. Then turning left on South 300th Pl. From the South, simply take 1st Avenue South, and turn right on the same street. The price is right, the spirit is right, and how often do we see a dedication to the holiday that is quaint, rather than garish and commercial? Kudos to a neighborhood that annually captures the humble, yet brilliant spirit of the season!

Inside you will find 12 beautifully decorated Christmas trees – each with it’s own theme. Whatever type, style, or color of ornament you are looking for, you will be sure to find it here. Herr has a great selection of wooden nutcrackers, ribbons, trimmings, snowglobes and much more. The ever popular L.E.D. lights are also available here. Herr also sells a colorful selection of candles, including the Root candle, which is a soy based candle which burns very clean and is also very long lasting. Gift cards are also available.

As winter approaches do you leave the screen windows on? Of course not! Likewise it’s common sense that if we want our feathered friends to use (and benefit from) the nest boxes we have in our yards, we must winterize them.
