Mizu Japanese Steakhouse is nestled in a strip mall across Strander
Boulevard from Southcenter. From the outside, the restaurant looks
like any other strip mall storefront. Fortunately the smell of
grilled meat and poultry wafting out into the parking lot is
deliciously enticing and will draw in anyone who might otherwise
overlook the plain exterior. It is certainly worth following the
aroma.

the house at Federal Way Custom Jewelers for over 49 years. The
store opened in 1955, and today remains among the oldest
continuously operating jewelry stores in South King County.
Rene Criss, owner and custom jewelry designer, and his wife and
business partner, Lorraine Meckley-Criss, (pictured here) delight in
seeing a piece of jewelry go from concept to precious reality.

for the better, avoid alcohol, drugs and gangs as they entered
middle school. Now they have achieved their goals and were rewarded
with a Spring Break trip to Disneyland.

Benson's Fashions is celebrating this May, 40 years of success, in
the same location. This landmark business is truly "Where women love
to shop for fine fashions and gifts!" in Des Moines.
Owner, Mary Beth Benson, is a living legend in retailing. Her
motto, "We want to serve our customers so well that they want to do
business with us first," is one she adopted from her beloved father,
a successful heavy machinery dealer, who loaned the start-up capital
for her enterprise. Over the years, each of her five children has
worked for a time in the business; but her loyal staff, women drawn
from the local community, has become like a second family. Together
they have seen many changes in hemlines but know that personal
service never goes out of style!

Valerie Gower: Each Picture Tells a Story |

SeaTac-based illustrator, political cartoonist and caricaturist,
Valerie Gower, describes the production of each piece of art as
being "like writing a script for a short film -- the plot, the
characters, the background and the storyboard all require careful
development."
Having already created over 1,000 portraits and caricatures and
many illustrations and cartoons, Gower's passion for creating art
drives her on to continue to hone her craft and to seek new
opportunities for making even more.
