Folks, this is a first…I didn’t get anything crossed off of my Winter Bucket List except hosting a Super Bowl party. We never got out to Kerry Park, didn’t knock over a few pins bowling, never went on the Theo’s Chocolate or Redhook Ale Brewery Tours, never laughed raucously to Jet City Improv, or visited the Volunteer Park Conservatory. We almost made the Seattle Art Museum Free Thursday this month as in we planned on going but six pm rolled around and we realized that none of us (baby included) had eaten dinner yet and we’d never make it across 520 or I-90 traffic in time.
Instead of marking item after item off our Winter Bucket List, we had a baby boy and kept him not only alive but happy, content, and growing these past few months. Some friends were joking on Facebook recently about preparing for babies by playing with Tamagotchis again – remember those little handheld digital pets you could attach to a key chain and cared for all the time? I was never skilled at Tamagotchi but as a mom for my own son, I seem to be doing okay if his now chubby legs and smiles count.
And we did have a Super Bowl party at least…note taken cute baby photo from the party (this outfit was a hand me down we found in baby’s dresser). None of his Seahawks gear fits yet but no matter who plays in Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014 (Go Seahawks!) baby will wear a Seahawks outfit to watch it.
I had hoped to stick with the Bucket List in new motherhood but alas, it just didn’t happen. It’s not to say we didn’t get out and about – we’ve even had dates without baby a few times. It just means we didn’t get to all of these fun activities this winter. But here’s to hoping that you did! Good thing most can be done next winter or any season for that matter. I am hoping to get more crossed off my Spring Bucket List now that baby is older and we have more energy to get out and about again.
Tell us what fun things you saw and did this winter around Seattle. We can enjoy your best moments vicariously through the comments section.
